This morning, I made a remark on someone’s Tumblr about how another person’s Tumblr page concerning their making fun of bad cosplay. Of course I was immediately put on blast instead of a decent response, because that’s the soup of the day routine now.
Let’s talk about enabling. Enabling is the instrument of destruction in America these days. It’s an act of making excuses for people who aren’t as successful in a venture as someone else may be, so that person will feel better about themselves, while not completely addressing the initial problem. It allows people to say “hey, we’re all winners here!”, when in reality, that is practically impossible to achieve.
Not everyone is a winner, and setting someone up for failure by using outlets to keep them sheltered from that stark view is what in the end causes these people to lose it and do destructive things. It’s the most dangerous concept in the world, that nothing bad should and will never happen to you while pursuing your life’s goals, and if someone dare has an opinion on it, well….THEY’RE WRONG.
If there is a site making fun at people who aren’t good at something they love doing, they have every right to disapprove of it. These people who might possibly be ruining the outlook of something that person loves, and they can most definitely have an opinion on that as well.
When it goes wrong is when in the name of standing up to “bullying”, it’s the people who are ruining the first person’s outlook in the first place telling others that it’s ok to gang up and bully that person because they’re not allowed to have that opinion. That is enabling. Telling someone who may be doing things that someone doesn’t enjoy that not only were they doing it perfectly in the beginning, which is horribly wrong, but that it’s ok to bash in hypocritical fashion the person bothered enough to make a response to begin with.
That is akin to me making a page on here dedicated to meme’s of Ryan Braun and Alex Rodriguez saying “HARRR I USE STEROIDS YOU SUCK”, because I despise steroid use in baseball, only to have a group of people suddenly try to have my page and my opinion outlawed removed because well A-Rod and Braun needed those steroids to be special! They need to be special!
Why can’t I get that those guys are special too?!?!?!
Trying to have my page removed, or my opinion banned for the sake of wounded feelings is a farce. When people keep enabling, keep sheltering people from understanding that perhaps they’re not all perfect, what that REALLY leads to are the shootings, the crazy suicides, the painful and most likely avoidable tragedies that befall people in this country.
Why? Because we just wanted to protect them? Protect them from what, people who may not like what they do and said something about it?
I have a story, it involves my brother, who happens to suffer from Bipolar Disorder. We both went through some truly tough times growing up, foster homes, moving here and there, child abuse, not a colorful life.
His path in life was to be treated by psychiatrists, therapists left and right. He’s been on every medication known to man it seems, and they all told him the same thing essentially, that he needed the meds, he needed to be sheltered. Now he’s practically homeless, living in a room from one friend to another, and in the long run, I may be forced to have to take care of him personally on some level. Where will all those enablers be when that time comes? Where are they now? Probably off counting the cash they reaped from their great labor in ensuring that my brother will be armed to the teeth with excuses for not going anywhere in life because it wasn’t his fault, and he can’t take care of himself.
That’s what America really wants to breed now, it seems, people who can’t really do anything for themselves, people who need to be told that they’re special and everything they do is perfect, because that enabling provides one of two things: a market for corporations and leeches who feed off of these people’s needs to be perfect, or it’s the media who cashes in when someone who wasn’t given a chance to just be themselves (and no, not from someone poking fun at their cosplay costume, but from the goofy sheep mentality discipline forced upon them) and develop a thick skin flips out when the shit hits the fan, and kills 14 people.
I keep waiting for the day when I get a phone call saying my brother snapped and killed somebody, all because of dipshits who took it upon themselves to keep him from discovering who he should be in the name of standing up for their rights, and not his.
The brutal truth is this: if someone took the time to say something you did looks stupid, laugh it off, it’s an opinion, and you have every right to not give a flying fuck what they think.
DO WHATEVER YOU WANT.
They’re not living your life, you are, and one Tumblr post with someone saying they thought your Pikachu costume was dumb as hell is merely them trying to get a rise out of you. One up them, make a better costume, better yet, who cares?
Whatever you do though, don’t join the ironic Lynch Mob Sheep, because if you do, you have decided to not be yourself, and merely a vessel for what someone else thinks.
Think about that, and try not to enable the ironic bullies who would shut down someone’s views in your name.
Someone at Microsoft PR thought this was a good idea.
Hooooooly shit this is real? This cannot be real. Please tell me this isn’t…
It’s called humor. Get off your fucking high horses and I don’t know, feel free to not be offended 24/7, Thanks.
